every night i had to report to the fbi for anyone who might've come into -- checked into a hotel who didn't look like he belongs there. so i kept those notes and i looked at them over the years. i started this book 10 years ago. i started talking to people who were in my unit and they provided me with anecdotes. i looked over old newspapers, looked over old magazines. started piecing things together. ken burns says, look at a photograph on and off. the photograph comes to life. the person that had the life before the snapshot will have a life after it and you begin to again, put things together so a few take a photograph of some of the buddies at the camp, you start trying to retrace your steps. so that is what became the life and i connected all the dots. i had a lot of support. some of you in the room here, to keep pushing this thing. if i don't sign books after this event if i don't have the finale or inscription for you, i will put down, once you are done reading this book please pass it on to a young person. again, this happened 50 years ago but it happened yesterday morning. ra

and 91% of the cases the fbi was powerless to stop them. it would also require that if you're going to get a concealed carry permit, that you have certain minimum requirements like age and some training lessons. and in addition, it would say that you have to report within 48 hours if your gun is lost or stolen. 600,000 guns are stolen from private homes every year. so this is basically the lowest hanging fruit. it is really ripe for legislative passage and i would hope it might get some...

if you look at the statistics from the fbi, most criminals are either stolen guns where they have enough ammo to commit the crime. why don't they get rid of gun owner permits? the state can run it, charging no more than $100. you get your background check, you take a site test. you clear that, you go through the class, you go down to your local state patrol, you pay another $100, you do your fingerprinting and other background check. here is your paperwork, here is your card. you can now purchase the firearm. legal gun owners are going to do everything they can to be legal and take the right steps. the people that do not want to do that are not going to get a gun. guest: i would be all for that. in some states, that is the process. in most, it is not. in most states, you can buy a gun with no questions asked. you do not have to pay a fee or to the state police or do anything. the system that you just described, if it was in place in all states, it would be a whole lot safer. legal gun owners virtually never use their guns improperly and virtually always keep their guns properly secured.
